Minecraft Monday #33: The Final Countdown

It's been such a fun year so far, but as with all good things, Minecraft Mondays is coming to an end! It's Week 33, and this week will be the final three extra block tutorials. But my son says there are millions of things you could make blocks from in Minecraft, and has suggested that if we randomly come up with another one in the future, we can just call it the "Minecraft Minute". And make it a one time thing, or random single block feature. He's got a good creative head on his shoulders, that one. ;)

Thank you so very much to all of you for following and sewing along on this epic 10th birthday quilt journey! :D And to the Mini Mr. for helping to come up with so many extra blocks for you. At first I was sad that he found out his surprise, but it ended up being a blessing in disguise, as I got to share the process with him and watch him get excited about picking out colors and designing additional blocks! And thanks to @little.emerz and @wisemantammy for sharing some of their extras as well! I can't wait to start setting this quilt together, and putting together a great big show and tell soon with all of your quilts I've seen over on IG. :D

The final extra blocks are the Bat, Herobrine, and Zombie (not to be confused with Zombie Villager, this is just the plain Zombie..?..)

*********************************

First up is the Bat. For the bat, you'll need three shades of brown, some background, and a couple of patches of black and white.

Cutting:

Dark Brown: (1) 2 x 4"
            (1) 2 x 10"

Medium Brown: (1) 2 x 10"
              (2) 2 x 9 1/2"
              (2) 2 x 6 1/2"
              (6) 2 x 3 1/2"

Light Brown/Tan: (1) 2 x 4"

Black: (1) 2 x 4"
       (1) 2 x 3 1/2"

White: (1) 2 x 4"

Background: (In the diagram, background is also shown as black, but I used purple in my block.)
            (2) 2 x 6 1/2"
            (1) 3 1/2 x 3 1/2"

Prep:

a) Stitch 2 x 4" rectangles of dark brown and light brown together, then cut into (2) 2 x 3 1/2" units as shown below. Set aside.

b) Stitch 2 x 10" strips of dark brown and medium brown together, then cut into (5) 2 x 3 1/2" units as shown below. Set aside.

c) Stitch 2 x 4" rectangles of black and white together, then cut into (2) 2 x 3 1/2" units as shown below. Set aside.

Assembly:  Assemble according to the small grey arrows first, then assemble in order of the numbered arrows.

And then you will have a BAT!

**********************************

Next is Herobrine. Which looks just like Steve but with white eyes and a nose that's the same color as his mouth. So let me just refer you over to the Steve block which was week #1, way back in January! You can get there by clicking right HERE, or by finding him over on the Sew Along page. Just remember to change that eye and nose color, and you'll have Herobrine!

**********************************

And lastly.. :/ ...(bittersweet) is Zombie.

For the Zombie you'll need two shades of green and a small bit of black.

Cutting:

Darker Green: (1) 2 x 14"
              (1) 2 x 10 1/2"

Lighter Green: (1) 2 x 14"
               (1) 2 x 10 1/2"
               (1) 2 x 9 1/2"
               (1) 2 x 4"
               (2) 2 x 3 1/2"
               (2) 3 1/2 x 3 1/2"
               (1) 5 x 6 1/2"

Black: (1) 3 1/2 x 4"
       (1) 2 x 3 1/2"

Prep:

a) Stitch 2 x 14" strips of darker green and lighter green together, then cut into (7) 2 x 3 1/2" units as shown below.  Set aside.

b) Stitch 2 x 10 1/2" strips of darker green and lighter green together, then cut into (3) 3 1/2 x 3 1/2" units as shown below. Set aside.

c) Stitch 2 x 4" rectangle of lighter green and 3 1/2 x 4" rectangle of black together, then cut into (2) 2 x 5" units as shown below. Set aside.

Assembly: Assemble according to the small grey arrows first, then assemble according to the numbered arrows.

And you will have a regular old Zombie! :D

It's Sunday evening as I'm typing this, and I still don't have the heart block from last week stitched, and haven't stitched these three myself, yet, but I'm hoping to get all caught up this week! Last week was the first full week of 'back to school', and we had some other appointments during the week as well, so hardly any sewing went on last week.

Fingers crossed for more sewing this week!

Thanks a million, again, from the bottom of my heart!  This has been so much fun!!  Can't wait to see more finished quilts!

Happy Minecraft Monday #32! I can't believe it's been over 6 months. The sew along page has over 11,600 views. Wow! I never would have imagined how fun this would be.

       (2) 3 1/2 x 5"
       (2) 2 x 5"

Light Brown: (1) 2 x 12 1/2"
             (2) 2 x 3 1/2"

Light Grey: (1) 3 1/2 x 3 1/2"

Black: (2) 2 x 3 1/2"
       (2) 2 x 2"

Red: (2) 2 x 2"

Assembly: Assemble the numbered sections first, then assemble per the large grey arrows.

And you should have an Iron Golem! We just got back from vacation at my parents' house and then school started, so I haven't gotten my blocks sewn up yet.  But he should look like this:

I'll edit my post and add them in when I get a chance to piece them.
Let me know if there are any discrepancies in the diagram/directions!

Next up is the heart.

For the heart you'll need a background color, red, black and a couple of patches of white.

Minecraft Quilt Bonus Blocks: TNT & Grass Cubes

It's week 31 of Minecraft Mondays.. only two more to go after this!

This week's bonus blocks are the TNT & Grass cubes. It was fun to do some non-characters for a change.

*********************************

First up is the TNT block.

The measurements on this were a little tricky at first, trying to make the letters look right, but keeping it in a 12" block. But it worked out in the end, and it's really not too complicated!

For TNT, you'll need two shades of red, some white and a bit of black.

Cutting:

Darker Red: (8) 2 x 4 1/4"

Lighter Red: (8) 2 x 4 1/4"

White: (2) 2 x 5"
       (1) 1 1/4 x 5"
       (3) 1 1/4 x 9 1/2"
       (1) 1 1/4 x 12"

Black: (1) 1 1/4 x 9 1/2"
       (1) 1 1/4 x 12"

Prep:

a) Stitch 1 1/4 x 12" strips of black and white together, then cut into (2) 2 x 2 3/4" rectangles, (2) 2 x 2" squares and (2) 1 1/4 x 2" rectangles as shown below. Set aside.

b) Stitch (2) 1 1/4 x 9 1/2" strips of white and (1) 1 1/4 x 9 1/2" strips of black together as shown below, then cut into (2) 2 3/4 x 2 3/4" squares, and (2) 2 x 2 3/4" rectangles. Set aside.

c) Using 2 x 4 1/4" rectangles of light and dark red, stitch together (8) of the following units.

Assembly: Stitch together the pieces indicated by the gray arrows first, then stitch block together according to the numbered arrows.

And it's a TNT block! My two reds could've had more contrast, but we're trying to just use what we have, so my son picked out the small swiss dots for the 2nd red.

This is the one my son asked to be made into a cushion, a CUBE cushion. Which means I'll need 4 of these, and a top and a bottom. Which is a whole other block. But for now I'm just doing one. ;) Let's hope the cube cushion turns out for his birthday!

*********************************

Next up is the Grass block.

For the Grass, you'll need two shades of green and two shades of brown. (or more if you want, and have scraps--these are good for scraps!)

Cutting:

Dark Green: (1) 2 x 2"
            (1) 2 x 3 1/2"
            (1) 3 1/2 x 8"

Light Green: (3) 2 x 2"
             (1) 2 x 8"
             (1) 2 x 6"

Dark Brown: (2) 2 x 2"
            (1) 2 x 3 1/2"
            (1) 2 x 5"
            (1) 2 x 6"
            (1) 3 1/2 x 6"
            (1) 3 1/2 x 3 1/2"
            (1) 2 x 17 1/2"

Light Brown: (1) 2 x 6"
             (1) 2 x 17 1/2"

Prep:

a) Stitch 3 1/2 x 8" rectangle of dark green and 2 x 8" rectangle of light green together, then cut into (4) 2 x 5" units as shown below. Set aside.

b) Stitch 3 1/2 x 6" rectangle of dark brown and 2 x 6" rectangle of light green together, then cut into (3) 2 x 5" units as shown below. Set aside.

c) Stitch 2 x 17 1/2" strips of light brown and dark brown together, then cut into (5) 3 1/2 x 3 1/2" squares as shown below. Set aside.

d) Stitch 2 x 6" strips of light and dark brown together, then cut into (3) 2 x 3 1/2" units as shown below. Set aside.

Assembly: Assemble pieces indicated by small gray arrows first, then assemble in order of the numbered arrows.

Grass! :D

Thanks for popping in, there are only two weeks left of extra blocks. This has been so much fun!

See you next week!
