Aurifil Giveaway + Teal Mini Swap

Do you like swaps? Minis? Sewing for a good cause?

September is Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month, and my friend Beth (aka EvaPaige Quilt Designs) has been running this Teal Mini swap for 5 years now in memory of her late mother who died from ovarian cancer. Each year it gets bigger and more fun with more states and provinces participating.

Beth:

Here's a sampling of the swap items that were shared last year. I didn't get to participate last year but I did the year before and it was so much fun.

In Beth's own words:

"This will be the fifth year for the Teal Mini Swap and I am very much hoping for record numbers that defy my senses, in terms of both participants and monies raised toward finding a cure for this ridiculous killer of women."

Here's how the swap works..

1. You register by clicking here.

2. You are sent an 8" square of the designated teal swap fabric which must be used somewhere in your mini (or mug rug, etc).

Below is this year's fabric which has been generously donated by Moda.

3. You are assigned a swap partner, and have until 10/1 to get your partner's mini done and mailed to them.

That's it! Super easy! And for a good cause.

More of Beth's own words:

"I started this swap several years ago because I lost my own mother to ovarian cancer in 2002. It's an insidious form of female-only cancer that affects far too many women at a prime time in their lives - average age of diagnosis is 57, which is exactly how old my mom was and is also a popular age for quilters.  Awareness comes in as participants are invited to join the Teal Mini Swap FB page (https://www.facebook.com/groups/twoforteal2014/), where we share photos of our swaps, encourage each other to share articles and personal experience with ovarian cancer, and overall it has become a very lovely group of women who just want to make a difference. We have several survivors as members as well as a few who still fight. Sadly, we lost a member this year to the disease, but she's a good reason to keep fighting."

If you would like to participate, you can register by clicking here. You can find out all of the specifics there.

To kick off the sign ups, Beth has arranged a blog tour July 26-28, and August 2-4, and each stop has a prize up for grabs! You don't have to sign up for the swap to be eligible for the prizes, but of course Beth would love it if you did!

Prize: One of these three Aurifil thread collections (winners announced Aug 1):

Sweetly Stitched
Seascape
Moonshine Meadow

July 26 - Kelli Fannin,

Seriously....I Think it Needs Stitches
  (You are here) :)

July 27 - Amy Friend, During Quiet Time
July 28 - Jacquelynne Steves,

All you have to do to enter is leave me a comment letting me know how hot it is where you live right now. (supposed to be in the 100's here all week-ugh) If you'd like, you can also share if you or anyone you know has had any experience with ovarian cancer.

Feel free to share about the blog tour and swap anywhere on social media. Let's help Beth get all of North America participating!

Huge Thanks!!!

Minecraft Quilt Bonus Blocks: Water Bucket & Potion Bottle

Happy Monday! :D

It's Monday #28 of Minecraft Mondays, and both of this week's blocks deserve a total shout-out to @little.emerz again! :D Because honestly, I didn't even know these things existed, but when my son saw them, he was dying to have them in his quilt! :) She gave me permission to share them here. So, here goes.

First is the water bucket. I think she did a different version of the water bucket after this one, but this one was A's favorite so this one it is. :)

For the water bucket, you'll need two shades of gray, two shades of blue and some background.

Dark Gray: (2) 2 x 3 1/2"
           (3) 2 x 11"
           (1) 2 x 10"

            (1) 3 1/2 x 5"
            (1) 2 x 2"

Blue: (1) 2 x 11"

Light Blue: (1) 2 x 11"
            (1) 2 x 2"

Background: (1) 2 x 11"
            (2) 2 x 3 1/2"

Prep:

a) Stitch your 2 x 10" strips of dark gray and light gray together as shown below, then cut into (1) 3 1/2 x 6 1/2" rectangle and (1) 3 1/2 x 3 1/2" square. Set aside.

b) Stitch each of the (3) 2 x 11" strips of dark gray to the dark blue, light blue and background 2 x 11" strips as shown below. Cut each one into (2) 3 1/2 x 3 1/2" squares and (2) 2 x 3 1/2" rectangles.

Assembly: Stitch together pieces indicated by small gray arrows first. Then stitch together in order of the numbered arrows.

It's a water bucket! :D

Next up is the potion bottle.

I love this one! For it, you'll need a maroon, a fuschia/bright pink/light maroon?, a light pink, white, and some background.

And you have a potion bottle! :D

My colors didn't turn out exactly like the diagram, but I just went with what I could find that I had already. :)

That's it for this week's extras. Thanks for dropping by.

Next week will be Wither & Wither Skeleton. :)

Assembly: Stitch pieces according to the small gray arrows first, then stitch together in order of the numbered arrows. If pieces are from the prep section above, they'll be labeled with that letter.

And it's Mr. Magma Cube! :D

I'm thinking my gray should've been darker.. but oh well. :) Thanks for popping by! I'd love to see your blocks if you're doing any extras. :)  My son is still having fun watching them all come together.

Have a great week!

Miinecraft Mondays Bonus Quilt Blocks: Siamese Cat, Sheep, and Diamond Steve

Happy 26th Minecraft Monday! This week we're making a rather strange sheep and a Siamese cat.

I think I'm possibly going to be making Mincraft quilt blocks for the rest of my life. ;) haha But only a few more weeks now.  And it really has been a blast!

First up today is the Sheep.

Yep! Don't adjust your screen. That's a BLUE sheep. Because my son says that you can dye sheep in the game, and his favorite color is blue, he picked a blue sheep. :D If you'd like your sheep to be a standard sheep, just switch the blue pieces out to white, or whatever color the recipient would like. :)

For the sheep, you'll need white, tan, black, two shades of pink, and whatever color you'd like around the outside edge.

Cutting:

White: (1) 2 x 9 1/2"
       (2) 2 x 3 1/2"
       (2) 2 x 2"

Tan: (1) 2 x 9 1/2"
     (1) 3 1/2 x 3 1/2"
     (4) 2 x 3 1/2'

Black: (2) 2 x 2"

Darker Pink: (1) 2 x 3 1/2"

Lighter Pink: (1) 2 x 3 1/2"

Blue (or chosen color):
          (2) 2 x 9 1/2"
          (2) 2 x 12 1/2"

Assembly: Assemble according to the smaller gray arrows first, then assemble according to the numbered arrows.

And you have a BLUE sheep.. or not, depending on your taste in dyed sheep! :D

*********************************

Next up is the Siamese Cat.

For the Siamese Cat, you'll need four shades of gray (scraps may come in handy--if you want, you could use just two shades of gray), black, white, blue and background.

Cutting:

Lightest Gray: (2) 2 x 3 1/2"
               (1) 2 x 6 1/2"
               (2) 3 1/2 x 3 1/2"

Light Medium Gray
(either side of nose):
               (1) 2 x 2"
               (1) 2 x 3 1/2"

Dark Medium Gray
(around eyes/forehead):
               (5) 2 x 3 1/2"
               (2) 2 x 2"
               (1) 3 1/2 x 6 1/2"

Darkest Gray (mouth):
               (1) 2 x 6 1/2"

White: (2) 2 x 2"

Blue: (2) 2 x 2"

Black: (1) 2 x 2"
       (2) 2 x 3 1/2"

Background: (2) 2 x 3 1/2"
            (1) 2 x 12 1/2"

Assembly: Assemble each section in order of the numbered arrows, then assemble block per larger gray arrows.

And you have a Siamese Cat! :D

********************************

Diamond Steve is easy! Just go to the Gold Steve tutorial by clicking here, and follow the same directions, swapping out the gold for turquoise. :D

*********************************

Some of you have asked how much yardage is needed for the large Ender Dragon that I'm making for the back of my son's quilt, but I just bought a yard of each of the colors, I think. I will figure out the yardages and then post them over on the sew along page soon, if they're not already there by the time you read this!

Thanks for visiting today! Hope you're staying cool wherever you are this summer!
