My Blog List
Today is my stop on the Quiltmaker's 100 Blocks blog tour to celebrate the release of the spring issue, Volume 13.
My block is called Dancing in the Rain.
I drew it up right after getting back from Houston last October where it was a torrential downpour most of the time. One day, when walking from the parking garage to the convention center, WITH AN UMBRELLA, the only thing dry was a 4" circle on the very top of my head. It was nuts! :D
I live in California, and hadn't seen rain like that in YEARS! I actually wish it would rain like that here! So as a momento, for where I'd come from, and a wish for my home state, (it worked b/c it is raining right now as I type!-ha) I pieced an umbrella and called it Dancing in the Rain. The above image is from Quiltmaker, but I did remember to snap one photo of it before I mailed it off to them, just a week or so after getting back from Quilt Market in Houston.
It's in the pieced category, and I made it with scraps from my Homestead Betty Quilt. I was shocked to see it on the cover, along with my name, too! :D
So to celebrate, I planned a giveaway party! There are FOUR prizes. I have two copies of the magazine to give away..
..a $25 gift certificate from Winter Creek Cloth..
..and a $40 gift certificate from Mad About Patchwork.
All you have to do to enter is leave me a comment letting me know where you're from and/or what the weather is like where you are right now. If this is your first visit, welcome! I hope you'll have a look around and come back to visit sometime! :D
Huge thanks to Quiltmaker, and don't forget to head over to their site and visit all of the other stops along the tour. Lots of giveaways, fun, and inspiration!
Have a great weekend! Thanks for stopping by! Good luck in the draw! I'll pick the winners next Friday. OOH, please make sure your settings allow me to see your email address so I can contact you. If you're unsure, just leave it along with your comment, just in case. :)
Hey Kelli! Such a cute block and congrats on making the magazine and cover!!! Woo hoo!! I live on the NW side of Houston in a town called Cypress! You may not know but Houston and it's surrounding areas flooded a couple of weeks ago from a torrential downpour of major, record-breaking proportions!!! On the flip side, how lucky I am to live close to the site of the International Quilt Festival!!! And by the way, this week has been the lovliest weather ever!!!!:)
It's about 8:30 AM in Georgia, USA. I'm in a suburb of Atlanta. It's a bright sunny morning we've warmed up to a crisp 50 degrees after being in the mid 30's last night :) Like the umbrella block... we could have used some good umbrellas during the last typhoon like rains that we've had come through.
I'm from Alberta Canada. Our weather has been really warm and sunny for this time of year.
We need rain in the province, though. Especially in the north where there is a terrible fire which has caused the evacuation of over 80,000 people. Many more are still trapped further north.
Love the block! It's whimsical and can be used in lots of ways. So fun but then I like the rain so naturally I like umbrellas. I am in North Alabama and the weather is a little cool since we are in the middle of Blackberry Winter. It was 40 last night. After this little spell it will get hot until about September with days close to 100.
Have a great day!
We live in Ohio..almost in middle! :) We had sun yesterday & today...more rain due tomorrow..& most of next week again. Is a carbon copy of LAST week..more gray & rainy days..and cold..still using our Woodburner in mornings..& some evenings! (where is Spring!!? lol)
Thank you for chance to win your Give-a-way too! :D
I am in North Carolina and we needed that umbrella this week. We got 2 inches of rain. Your umbrella Is so cute. Now we need our coats as blackberry winter has hit, but should start warming up tomorrow for Derby Day in KY, my home state. Congrats on making the cover. Thanks for the giveaway. Got my fingers crossed. Happy Mother's Day ladies.
Hi Kelli - It is a gorgeous sunny spring day with lots of puffy clouds and a tiny bit of windiness! My garden is coming up - my tomatoes are in! and my husband used chicken compost on them and the smell is very earthy!! (I was going to say something else about the stink but then my tomatoes probably won't grow!!!) Lovely umbrella block!!! Congrats on being published!!! :)
I'm loving your pretty striped umbrella. I live in the metro Atlanta area and for the last few days it has been unusually cool and windy here. It is college graduation day today and it is going to be 66 degrees and breezy. Beautiful day for a celebration.
Wonderful block... thinking of how I can use it right now!!
I live in Wichita, Kansas... right now the weather is beautiful.. sunny, no wind 70 degrees... but it has been cold this week and rain and storms expected Mother's day.. ever changing is the best way to describe weather here!
Hi I'm for Alberta Canada where I am I it is sunny and cool but will warm up today. There are no wildfires like to the north of us but we are as dry as they are and I pray for all the communities that are losing their homes to fire. It was bad enough here with the lack of jobs available) my hubby being one of them) at least my house isn't burning down. and I have great quilt blocks to look at for now. God has Blessed me.
Sorry it rained on you when you were in Houston, but it was probably cooler with the rain that it would be without it. Yes, even in October! Glad you're getting rain in CA. You definitely need it more than us at the moment! Back to why we're really here - CONGRATULATIONS! The cover? That's awesome! This is a unique block but easy to tell what it is at a glance - perfect cover material!
Here in the Chicago area today it is mostly sunny and supposed to get to 80 degrees. Tomorrow it will be back in the low 60's--up, down, sun, rain, it's been a wacky spring. I don't have an umbrella usually (though I'd love a red and white striped one!), so almost all my coats and jackets have hoods.
I'm in New Jersey. . . .and we are in our 7th (I think) day of rain. . .so I could really use a big umbrella!! LOL
They are saying that it might clear up by Sunday. . . which would be good. Hubby, the dogs, and I are all going a bit stir crazy from having only gray skies to look at.
Congratulations on being a cover girl!
I'm a Southern Californian who has been living in the rainy Pacific Northwest for a dozen years. It's so funny, because up here no one uses an umbrella. We just get very wet. I'm happy to say that today the sun is shining--and now I am like the rest of the Oregonians and I'm treating it like a holiday: The Return of the Sun!
I'm here in NOT so sunny southern California, at least today! I'm 25 miles east of Los Angeles and I have always LOVED the rain. Now I'm grateful for it due to the water shortage and Mother Nature waters my roses, gardens and now the anticipation of juicy ripe tomatoes!!!
I am from Mississippi and our weather has been mid 70s in daytime and low to mid 50s at night. Looking at the forecast getting warmer 80s/60s. We haven't had rain in several days--how odd! Enjoying your minecraft quilt blocks. My grandson is a minecraft fan. I don't know anything about it. Congratulations on your being a cover girl! poladydwd(at)yahoo(dot)com
I live on the Mississippi Gulf Coast and the weather here is just beautiful. We have had a lot of rain this spring, causing some flooding. Congratulations on your block being selected. I'm planning an umbrella quilt in the near future. Your block should fit in nicely.
Greetings from Kentucky! We could have used some umbrellas here for most of this week. It's been unseasonably cold and wet. But the sun has finally come out and tomorrow it's supposed to warm up and be beautiful. Good weather for the Derby is always appreciated in Kentucky!
Darling block! I'm in Northern California and we have been getting more rain this year than we have in years! I love the rain and would take it everyday. When the rain stops and summer gets here it often gets very hot, 90-100s. I'm in no hurry for that, hehe. Congratulations on having your block included in Vol. 13. What an awesome giveaway!! Maybe an early birthday win? ;-D my birthday is the 12th. Fingers crossed!
Thanks for a chance to win.
What a fun block and just right for a rainy day here in Southeastern Alaska. Rain Dance is what I should be doing now...please to stop the rain that is falling down...we have had over an inch already and it is only afternoon! But your block is so pretty and one that I should make to enjoy where I live and still keep dry. Thank you so much for sharing your talent.
Greetings from Mesa, Arizona where it is 80F in the shade today. Just 2 days ago it was 102F in the sun. Time to head north for home; my other home that is. Very nice block. Just last week, I overheard one little boy complaining to his mother as they were coming into the store about it raining. I reached out a hand and felt a drop, waited, waited, not yet, and then another drop. Yup he was right.
Thanks for the umbrella, sometimes the simple items can be used so many ways. A week ago on the far northeast plains of Colorado we had 8 or more inches of wet heavy snow that broke tree branches, etc then 4 days later I was wearing sandals and fighting dust. Kathy in NE Colo
Hellow from Chicago, watching Chicago get abducted to Rock and Roll Hall and Fame, they said, "If it's your mother's band, I'd like to party with your mom." Color My World song was our prom song. Rock on children of the 70's.
It's been a wet and green spring here and the colors are gorgeous!
