Minecraft Mondays #7: The Village People
12:00 AM
We're not singing Y-M-C-A, we're making Villagers. :) I love this block, and have been looking forward to making it. The pig was pretty plain, a couple of pinks and some eyes, but this one seems to have some character. :D I esp. love his unibrow.
That being said, after a couple of other blocks looking anemic, this one might look slightly jaundice. :D
My son picked out the colors for this one and loves it. :D (There were so many to pick from!)
Yep, that's right. My son picked out the colors. The cat is out of the bag. The gig is up. I flunked keeping it a surprise.
I had been working on a blog post late at night last weekend, b/c I didn't get it finished during the week, and left a window minimized instead of closing it out completely. The next a.m., he got up and jumped on the computer to play a game and when he hovered over the internet explorer icon some thumbnail pics showed up. Among them...
Woops. Of course he waited 'til we were sitting in church that day to whisper to me, "You're making me a Minecraft quilt." I pretended to not know what on earth he was talking about, and then he whispered, "You are! I saw the picture!" *sigh*
At least I kept it a surprise for 6 weeks. ha! Oh well. It's kind of a relief actually, b/c now I don't have to sneak around and hide everything, esp. something I knew he'd be so excited about. I would catch myself all the time almost saying something about it to him. I still plan on trying to pull off a smaller surprise for the backing of it though. Hopefully I can pull that off.
Onto the Villager! These are the colors we used. (I can't wait to see all of your choices!)
You'll need to pick out skin, unibrow, eyes, mouth, nose and shirt colors (2 colors for the nose).
Cutting:
Skin Tone:
(1) 3 1/2 x 12 1/2"
(2) 3 1/2 x 5"
(1) 2 x 3 1/2"
(2) 2 x 2"
(1) 2 x 8"
Unibrow:
(1) 2 x 12 1/2"
Eyes and Mouth:
(1) 2 x 8" (white)
(2) 2 x 2" (green)
Nose:
(1) 2 x 6 1/2" of each chosen nose color.
Shirt:
(2) 2 x 5"
Prep:
1. Stitch 2 x 8" strips of skin tone and white together. Then cut into (4) 2 x 3 1/2" sections.
2. Stitch each 2 x 6 1/2" strip of nose fabric together on the long edge.
Assembly:
As always, stitch together in order of the numbered arrows, then stitch the upper and lower halves together.
Dance: Get up and do the Y-M-C-A.
Your Villager is done. :D
My son was so excited, that he was looking over my shoulder the whole time and even helped press open the seams. :)
And then we sashed it onto the previous two blocks and hung up the first row and what's done of the second row to admire. He is truly over the moon. :D Last night at bed time he was asking if we could make a pillow sham and "cube" pillows. Oh boy. What have I gotten myself into. ha! ;) Good times, though. Making memories. :D
Next week is the wolf, and he is super excited about that one...
It's one of his favorite characters. He made the wolf for his Valentine box for his 3rd grade Valentine party this year. (Thanks to Kleenex boxes!) :D His table mate made Steve. Neither knew what the other was making.
This past week a lot of blocks have popped up on Instagram, and I've been shocked to see so many. :D It's so much fun and I hope you keep tagging me! These ladies already caught up with the sew along after starting late! (all of the links to their IG accounts are under their photos) They all look great. Several are making multiple quilts!
Also some single blocks showed up, too!
Thanks again for sewing along! Happy Monday!!

Minecraft FQ Bundle Giveaways
12:00 AM
Happy Friday!
I have some great news today.. Fat Quarter Shop has very generously donated not one but TWO of the Minecraft Sew Along bundles to give away. One on Instagram, and one here. The one on Instagram went up on Wednesday night and will close at 3 p.m. on Monday 2/29. (It's leap year right?) If you have an account there, and you'd like to enter, you can do so by clicking here. It's easy and quick. :)
This is what the bundle looks like when it arrives.
This is the other side of the bundle. Colorful bliss. :)
The giveaway right here will be open until next Thursday at 5 p.m. To make it easy, and ensure that I have an email address for every entrant (the last two scrap giveaways have had a lot of "no reply" entries and I haven't been able to reach the initial winners!), I've created a rafflecopter. Just sign in with an email address and click away. A couple of options allow you to come back and enter each day if you'd like until the giveaway closes. The rafflecopter even allows me to run it on my facebook page, so it will be up over there, too, if you click the giveaway tab at the top of the page. :)
In other news, next week's block will be fun. Meet the Villager. :D
And for the winners of the two previous Wednesdays' Ardently Austen and Blackbeard's Pirates scrap giveaways, visit these posts: Jane's Cross/Captain Jack.
Good luck and happy entering! :D And thanks again Fat Quarter Shop for doing this!
***edit*** Congratulations Melody Lutz!! You won the FQ Bundle! :D Check your email for the details.
Thanks to everyone who stopped by to enter!

Have a great weekend!

Minecraft Mondays #6: Oink.
12:01 AM
Week 6: Another one of the few blocks that I didn't have to google the name of. :D
Wow! It's been a crazy week for Minecraft Mondays! Fat Quarter Shop got the Minecraft Sew Along fat quarter bundle up online, and shared on all of their social media, which brought a lot of new traffic and questions. If you order one, I hope you'll be happy with the colors I chose.. it was so hard to pick from so many shades! I'm excited to start using them! Many thanks to Kimberly and the FQS team for putting this together. We are going to be giving some away soon! Stay tuned for that. :)
If you're new to Minecraft Mondays, welcome! You can find all of the information about the sew along by clicking the button in the right sidebar over there. Or by clicking here.
We are up to block #6, but if you're just joining in, the blocks are pretty simple so you should have plenty of time to catch up.
The pig's not much of a looker, but looks much better when combined with the rest of them. ;) He seems a little angry. lol
If you're sashing as you go, you'll just need to cut (3) 5 1/2 x 12 1/2" rectangles of black for each row.
For the pig you'll need two shades of pink (mine could've used a little more contrast, but I hadn't received my FQS bundle yet so used what I had), and a couple of small patches each of black, white and tan (brown?). I may be raiding my scrap bin for those again. :)
Cutting:
Darker Pink: (1) 5 x 12 1/2"
(1) 5 x 6 1/2"
(1) 3 1/2 x 6 1/2"
(2) 2 x 5"
(1) 2 x 2"
Lighter Pink: (2) 2 x 5"
(1) 2 x 2"
Black: (2) 2 x 2"
White: (2) 2 x 2"
Tan: (2) 2 x 2"
Prep: Stitch black and white squares together, and pink (2x5") rectangles together as shown.
Assembly: Stitch together in order of the numbered arrows.
If you're sashing as you go like I am, stitch the left edge of the pig onto the right edge of last week's block and sashing. Then cut a 5 1/2 x 12 1/2" rectangle of black and stitch to the right edge of the pig so you're ready to attach next week's block.
Row 2 is halfway done! :)
Here are Anita's and Eileen's cow blocks from last week. They are @daydreamsofquilts and @sew_eileen on IG if you want to follow their progress.
And Karen (@karens_photos) has joined in with Alex and Steve! It's so exciting to see all of these blocks from far flung places. :) I'm on the west coast, Eileen on the east coast (of the US), Anita in Canada, and now Karen down under. :)
Thanks again for mining along ladies! It is so much more fun!!
Next week's block will be the villager. I've been looking forward to that one. :)
Oink. :) Have a super week!
xoxo

Jane's Cross Quilt (+ a giveaway)
12:42 PM
This is another quilt I made for Riley Blake to take to Quilt Market in October and never blogged about. Jane's Cross was inspired by the fabric line Ardently Austen, by The Quilted Fish.
I called it Jane's Cross after the fabric line and also because the blocks ended up reminding me of medieval crosses of some sort.
I love the Ardently Austen fabric line so it was lots of fun to sew up! The text prints contain Jane Austen's words. The teacup and teapot print is adorable, and I loved the cameos.. I just loved it all. :D
Chain stitching was def. my friend, and the big blocks came together fairly quickly.
Here's the quilt on my couch..
I barely finished it in time! Here it is in the booth.
And then back home again. :)
The pattern is in my Craftsy shop and I also have a bag of scraps to give away of Ardently Austen. :)
Just leave a comment and let me know if you're interested in the scraps and I will pick a winner next Wednesday!
Thanks for stopping in! Thanks everyone for coming by to enter!
***Edit: The winner of the scraps is Betty (Betz2u) Congrats Betty, and thanks for entering!

Minecraft Mondays #5: Moo.
12:01 AM
Happy Monday! We're up to week five and today we're making the cow.
The brown cow, not to be confused with the Mooshroom, or as I call that one (to my son's disapproval) the red cow. :) We'll get to the Mooshroom in week #14.
Before we get on with making the cow, here's a pic of the completed row 1. It is so much fun to sash as I go and see it come together.
What you'll need for the cow is a bit of brown, gray, black, and white. I rummaged through scraps and leftovers for this one, and found two choices for brown, but used the darker one. I was really on the fence, though. I think the lighter one would have worked too. I'm happy to say that this block is made completely from my stash. :)
Cutting:
Brown: (2) 2 x 2", (3) 2 x 3 1/2", (2) 2 x 5", (2) 3 1/2 x 3 1/2",
(1) 3 1/2 x 5", (1) 3 1/2 x 6 1/2"
Gray: (3) 2 x 2", (1) 2 x 5"
White: (3) 2 x 2", (4) 2 x 3 1/2", (1) 2 x 5", (1) 3 1/2 x 3 1/2"
Black: (4) 2 x 2"
Piecing:
I pieced it in three sections; the left, middle and right sections. As always, stitch together in order of the #'d arrows.
Then..
And you have the cow! :)
If you're sashing as you go, cut a 5 1/2 x 12 1/2" rectangle of black and stitch to the right edge so you'll be ready to attach next week's block.
Here are some Alex blocks from last week. (Thanks for posting Eileen and Anita!) I will continue to post any blocks that I see, so keep tagging me or if you're not on Instagram, feel free to email me a photo if you'd like me to share. :)
I got an email from Bridget this last week and she is making THREE quilts, one for each grandson. I'm floored! And humbled. Thanks to all of you for joining me. :) My favorite part of this whole thing is thinking of all the happy boys who are going to be wrapped up in a quilt made with love, by someone they love, of something they love, just for them, in just a few months. :D You are all making this experience of piecing this quilt for my son so much more special! He's going to be so surprised! Esp. when I show him all of your blocks and quilts, too.
*AND* I have some extra exciting news this week!! If you haven't started yet, or if you need more fabric, Kimberly from Fat Quarter Shop contacted me and we are in the process of creating an exclusive bundle of "Minecraft Sew Along" Bella solids! So stay tuned for that. There may even be a couple of bundles to give away here soon! ;)
In the meantime, instead of posting a list of previous block links at the end of each post, I've decided to create a button and a page to make it easier. That way the links are all in one place, instead of clicking back and forth between blog posts. So if you click on this button in the sidebar, it will take you straight to a page containing all of the links and info.
In the meantime, here is a preview of next week's block. Oink.
I'll be back on Wednesday of this week to announce the Captain Jack scraps winner, and post about another quilt with another bag of scraps to give away.
Thanks for mining along! :)
xoxo

xoxo
Moo. :)
