A Sunday Finish; Awesome Blossom

I have a finish to share, from quite a while ago, that I never got to blog about. It's called Awesome Blossom, because the blossoms are HUGE! :) The finished size of the quilt is 75 x 75".

I made it with a new fabric line by Emily Taylor for Riley Blake called Chatsworth.  I have to confess, it was a little bit out of my comfort zone as I'm not generally drawn to soft, girly florals. I usually go for more bright colors, but I love how vintage-y this turned out. It grew on me more and more with each flower and by the end I was in love. It feels very old fashioned, but at the same time fresh. I want to curl up under it and take a nap. :)

I had a hard time getting pics of the quilt that showed the colors.  They say overcast is the best lighting for taking quilt photos, but we hardly ever get that in CA.

(Although I think El Nino has arrived..we've had rain for the last 3 Sundays in a row, (yay!) and the ski resorts in the Sierra are opening EARLY! Bring on the rain!!)

It hung in the Riley Blake booth at Quilt Market, so I wasn't able to share about it beforehand. It was super fun to make though.

Thanks for stopping by!  I have a few more finishes to blog about soon, but first, be sure to stop by tomorrow for the Quiltmaker 100 Blocks Vol. 12 Blog Tour.  There will be lots of prizes up for grabs all week long along the Tour. So come by to see my block, "You've Got Mail", enter to win one of two $30 gift certificates or a complimentary copy of the mag, then visit all of the other blogs for that day, hopping and entering.  It's always lots of fun to see everyone's blocks.

Happy Sunday!

xoxo

Lovely quilty blossoms! The fabrics do give the feel of some vintage goodness. Definitely looks like a quilt to be treasured through the years.

That is really pretty and I love the quilting on it. We are still waiting for that rain down in So. CA.

Those big blossoms are gorgeous. Good job!

I love this quilt and the soft feel. I, too, usually pick the bold bright colors. I think you may have given me inspiration for my next quilt.

Beautiful finish. I'm not a floral girl but those fabrics sing even to me.

This is a really pretty quilt. I share you feelings about brights vs. soft florals. This is an excellent pattern to showcase vintage prints. I do not sympathize with your lack of cloudy days in CA, tho! ;) I'm in Central Texas - New Braunfels, TX - and we get plenty of both sunny and cloudy, but in large spurts it seems. It was very sunny all summer and now it will be very cloudy until about March, I think.

I love how the pattern in the blooms gives the illusion of curves, accentuated by the quilting. Congratulations (belated ;) ) on the finish!

Very creative & a keepsake quilt. From Arizona

I love this pattern! What is it called? (I want to buy it so I can make one!!) I am also fond of using bright, bold colors and patterns, but am also starting to appreciate the softer contrast of pastels. I can't wait to make this as I think it'll be perfect for a king-size bed. :) Great job and thanks so much for sharing your beautiful work!

Great quilt. It would be great in bright colors, too.
